After a series of delays, Microsoft has finally released Windows Vista to businesses. The release of Vista will be the first major operating system launch Microsoft has had in five years. The OS was launched today at the NASDAQ Stock Market where Microsoft held an hour-long press conference and demonstration.
Steve Ballmer stressed the importance of the Vista launch today, and claimed it to be the biggest launch in the history of Microsoft. Microsoft released more than 30 new products aimed towards businesses today. Among these new products were the enterprise editions of both Microsoft Office 2007 and Windows Vista. Microsoft Exchange Server also made its debut today.
Among the new features of Microsoft Office 2007 is a completely new method of how commands are presented. For the most part, the new Office has very little in common visually with previous versions of the series. The familiar menu structure that Microsoft Office is famous for is gone and has been completely changed. So far, the feelings on the new method of command organization are mixed with some users praising it while others vowing they will never upgrade to Office 2007.
The release of these two new major products is the fist time in 11 years that two flagship Microsoft products have been launched at the same time. In his speech, Steve Ballmer also stated that the release of Microsoft Vista and Office 2007 is the most “widely marketed launch of any set of product Microsoft has ever done.”
