A key selling point with Zune at launch was supposedly its tight integration with Microsoft Windows. This integration has been vital to the success of many Windows based portables, such as Microsoft Pocket PC based devices. However, beta testers and users of the Enterprise Version of Windows Vista have been complaining that the Zune and Windows Vista are currently having compatibility problems together.
The new patch, which was released today over the Zune website and through Windows Update Service, updates Zune firmware in order to make it compatible with Windows Vista. According to the Windows Vista Team Blog, their original intention was to hold off a Vista compatibility release for the Zune until just before Vista’s release. This plan, however, was cancelled due to the fact that it could have curbed enthusiasm for the Zune.
The patch is 22 MB and is expected to fix, in addition to Vista compatibility, a number of other glitches for the Zune. All users of Windows Vista who want their Zune to be compatible with the new OS are urged to install the update.
