The Wii version of Opera will be released for download December 22, 2006. The browser will be known as the “Internet Channel” on the Wii menu. A final version for the browser is expected to be released March 2007. Prior to June, the product will be free, however, after the final version it will need to be paid for with “Wii points.”

The browser will support Adobe’s Flash Technology. In order to help users navigate websites that are not easily accessible with the Wii remote, the browser will also come with an on-screen keyboard. The browser is expected to help the Wii compete as a more general device for the family room against the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
