The Internet has recently begun playing a larger role in crime investigations, such as the Tom Stephens incident earlier this week and a couple of other occasions in the past.
This time, Canadian Police in the Southern Ontario city of Hamilton uploaded a clip from a surveillance tape onto the popular video-sharing website YouTube. The video showed suspects arriving at a local nightclub for a hip-hop concert performed by Sean Prince.
This is probably one of the first times that law enforcement has ever turned to YouTube as a direct investigative tool. The uploaded clip ended up being viewed over 30,000 times. The extra publicity which was generated by YouTube helped to result in George Gallow, 24, to turn himself in to police last Tuesday. He has been charged with second degree murder and attempted murder for stabbing Ryan Milner, 22, and his friend, who has still not been named by police, in a parking lot outside of the club. Milner died shortly from the stab wound to his chest.
Although the original video has been pulled from YouTube, you can view one uploaded by a different user here. Gallow is the man in the joker hat.
