"Just in time for the holidays, Microsoft and Sony have both announced free downloads for their game consoles. "

Just in time for the holidays, Sony and Microsoft have, respectively, announced free downloads for their PS3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles.

Sony has announced a free High Definition demo of Gran Turismo. The concept demo offers GT fans a chance to drive ten cars on one track. The demo also features more unlockable content and a number of game modes to players.

It will be available for a limited amount of time, which Sony didn’t specify, and posted for download starting December 24 through the PS3 PlayStation Network. The full version of Gran Turismo for the Sony PlayStation 3 is expected to debut in 2008.

On the Xbox 360 side, Bethesda has teamed up with Microsoft to offer the "Mehrunes Razor" download for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

The usual selling price for the download over Xbox Live is 250 points; however, with the special offer it is free of charge.

Bethesda summed up the special offer by saying, "We're pleased to announce that we've worked with the good folks at Xbox Live to give away one of our most popular downloads for Oblivion - Mehrunes Razor - for a limited period of time. Starting this Friday, Dec. 22, Xbox 360 gamers will be able to download Mehrunes Razor for free. This offer is only for a limited time...from Dec. 22 to Dec. 31. On Monday, Jan. 1 it will go back to its standard price."
